Learning is one of my great passions in life. I believe that we continue to learn infinitely as life itself continues and is infinite. In the summer of 1985 I was hospitalized due to some digestive illness. I had already attended a little more than one year of graduate school in religious studies. It was decided then that it was in my best interest to care for my health first and I could wait for another opportunity to complete my studies. It certainly has been a joy and pleasure to work with Mrs. Jeannette Henry who assumed the role of chairwoman after the 2012 National Assembly. She revived the WFWP chapter in Minnesota from that time. On a beautiful July day the Minnesota Chapter of WFWP had the opportunity to host a seminar featuring WFWP President Angelika Selle. This was our second time welcoming Mrs. Selle to Minnesota. Clergy, educators, business leaders, and friends, both old and new, came hear her message and find out more about what WFWP is doing in the US and around the world.Mrs. Selle gave two presentations. The first was on the upgraded vision and mission of WFWP USA, focusing on the new time we live in. On September 26, the Minnesota Chapter of WFWP brought together a group of men and women to explore the topic, “The Longing Heart of Mothers to Bring Peace.” To begin, the organization of WFWP was introduced, the mission and goals, especially pointing out that women are not here to compete with men, but to complete them. For WFWP to succeed, women need the support of their husbands, sons, and men in the community to bring true and lasting peace. The main speaker, Mrs. Mary Jane Anderson, a loving mother of four children, a nurse, a devoted wife, and a respected longtime member of WFWP, gave a remarkable talk about the different but essential roles of both women and men in raising children. On March 21st, WFWP Minnesota Chapter invited Ms. Mai Ker Vang to be a guest speaker and talk about her recent trip to Laos, a small country in Southeast Asia which many Hmong people call home. Mai Ker Vang works as a social worker and presently volunteers her time as a community advocate for the Hmong Nationalities Organization (HNO). She is also a host for a local Hmong radio program that airs once a week. Ms. Mai Ker Vang is also a fulltime wife and mother of four children. She is a driving force in the Hmong community, an inspiring leader, and a role model to the Hmong community and to many others.
