SEVEN STEPS TO HARMONY

The Las Vegas Chapter of WFWP hosted an acclaimed parenting course taught by Mrs. Karen Ryce, founder of Happy Kids Co. and author of several books on parenting, on Sunday, March 20. Mrs. Ryce, who has over 40 years of experience working with parents and children, spoke of the "Seven Steps to Creating Harmony in the Family," as ways to resolve parent-child, teacher-child and child-child conflicts.

The 18 workshop participants listened as Mrs. Ryce imparted a wealth of knowledge derived from her own experience. The foundational theme in her presentation was that the most important point in resolving issues among children is to show them that there is nothing to fear. According to Mrs. Rryce, as a teacher or parent involved in a conflict with a child or arbitrating a conflict between children, the value of creating a space of security, safety, and calm through our own presence and inner peace cannot be understated.

Later in the workshop, participants broke up into pairs for a role-playing activity about how to solve common conflicts that arise between children and between children and their parents. One participant walked away from this activity with a new appreciation for forgiveness, recognizing that it is very important to apologize. Another understood that these seven steps can be applied to resolve adult-adult conflicts as well. A third participant reflected that men who have struggled to build sustaining and vital relationships could especially benefit from participating in this course.

All the participants expressed that they had learned something valuable from Mrs. Ryce's presentation and many said that they look forward to her next workshop. WFWP Las Vegas hosted Mrs. Ryce's parenting course several times last year and hopes to introduce local preschools and organizations to Mrs. Ryce's valuable education.
