GEORGIA CHAPTER PARTICIPATES IN GLOBAL HEALTH AND HUMANITARIAN SUMMIT

On April 1st, local community service organizers, up-and-coming humanitarians, and members of the Georgia Chapter of the Women's Federation gathered to attend this year's Global Health and Humanitarian Summit at Emory University, Georgia. The summit served as a large networking event to recruit and connect volunteers with local community service organizers, up-and-coming NGO/NPOs, and world wide/nationally-recognized humanitarian organizations.

Over a hundred exhibitors came to present ideas on a range of issues from "Affordable Healthcare for All Americans" to "Improving Heart Disease in Africa" and presented their solutions to a number of issues ranging from medical, social and environmental.

Outstanding humanitarians such as the real "Patch Adams" gave an inspiring presentation on founding the Gesundheit! Institute, a leading humanitarian outreach and advocacy, which offers 'clown missions' to suffering parts of the world. Grandson of Kim Dae Jung, former president of South Korea and Noble Peace Prize recipient also came to speak about the medical and peace work in Asia.

With an audience that consumed three buildings at the college, participants were given the opportunity to attend movie, sport and music exhibits, public and holistic health seminars, presentations on new medical breakthroughs, and presentations on international medical missions. Each exhibitor was given the opportunity to present and connect their audience members to their cause, in hopes that it will bring a more support to the humanitarian efforts worldwide.

"This was definitely a summit for people who are living for the sake of others" said Chairwomen Celeste Koshida. In the midst of the hundreds of presenters at the Summit, WFWP Chairwomen Koshida, Ekaette Heyliger, Nandi Moton, Tomiko Gordon, Marilyn Eaton came and set up an exhibit table and gave a presentation introducing the work of WFWP, along with a video of Women's Middle East Peace Initiative trip in 2004.

Other well-known organizations include the US Soccer Foundation, Sierra Club, Medical Reserve Volunteer Corps, Habitat for Humanity, Partnership against Domestic Violence, Cancer Education Foundation, and the Center for Disease Control.
