Mother of Peace
founder of wfwp international
Experiencing the first hand effects of the Korean War during her childhood, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon grew up amidst a time of division and uncertainty. Dr. Moon’s upbringing in a war-torn Korea shaped her aspirations in building a world of peace and reconciliation from a young age. Thus, Dr. Moon and her late husband, Reverend Sun Myung Moon, dedicated their lives to realize such hopes. In 1992, they founded the Women’s Federation for World Peace with the understanding that women play a vital role in establishing a harmonious society.
Because of many peace-building initiatives across the globe, Dr. Moon has come to be affectionately known as Mother Moon by many who have been touched by her warm embrace and maternal care. Mother Moon’s heart to alleviate the world’s suffering through a mother’s touch is the core of WFWP’s mission. WFWP was established to uplift and guide women to recognize the value of their divine femininity and encourages the partnership of both women and men to realize a world of peace. She advocates, “Women have the magical power to create harmony and to soften hearts. Brides build bridges. The world of the future can be a world of reconciliation and peace, but only if it is based on the maternal love and affection of women. This is a true power of womanhood. The time has come for the power of true womanhood to save the world.”
Mother Moon’s life is a testament to her unyielding endeavors to substantiate one global family through embodying compassion and service.

Dr. Moon has worked with heads of state, Nobel prize winners, religious leaders, and men and women of the arts to create a world of God's ideal. This pursuit has taken her to the halls of power. In July of 1993, she was the first Korean woman to address a meeting of United States Senators and Congressmen on Capitol Hill. Two months later, on September 7, Mrs. Moon became the first Korean woman to give an address in the United Nations. Her message on both these occasions connected women's responsibility in the quest for world peace with the deepest elements of human existence: the heart of God, the suffering of humanity, and the meaning of human history.
Dr. Moon’s latest humanitarian efforts included the Peace Starts with Me rallies and world tour. In addition, she established the prestigious Sunhak Peace Prize to recognize and award those who are creating solutions for the betterment of future generations. Because of many peace-building initiatives across the globe, Dr. Moon has come to be affectionately known as Mother Moon by many who have been touched by her warm embrace and maternal care.
Despite the unprecedented circumstances with the Covid-19 pandemic, Mother Moon has remained steadfast in her commitment to peace and initiated a series of virtual events called the Rallies of Hope with guest speakers including both current and former heads of states all over the world. Based on goals of mutual prosperity, interdependence, and universal values, the Rallies of Hope have brought together people of different religious denominations, political affiliations, and national borders, touching millions of viewers.
Mother Moon’s heart to alleviate the world’s suffering through a mother’s touch is the core of WFWP’s mission. Mother Moon established WFWP in hopes to uplift and guide all women to recognize the value of their divine femininity and encourages the partnership of both women and men to realize a world of peace. As a mother of 14, Mother Moon understands the impact a mother can make to her family and society through love. She advocates, “Women have the magical power to create harmony and to soften hearts. Brides build bridges. The world of the future can be a world of reconciliation and peace, but only if it is based on the maternal love and affection of women. This is a true power of womanhood. The time has come for the power of true womanhood to save the world.” (Mother of Peace 251).
