Dr. Amy Anderson
For the last 13 years, Dr. Amy Anderson has been sharing her passion for communication studies with college and university students. She strives to be a charismatic teacher who is knowledgeable, personable, and engaging. If you walked into one of Amy’s classes, you would likely see students working on community service projects or other experiential learning opportunities. Amy is also dedicated to equity, inclusivity, diversity, global awareness, and peace. She created an EDI reflection guide that is used in various schools around the Pacific Northwest to aid faculty in creating equitable and inclusive coursework and assessments, as well as improving interactions with students and community members. Amy’s commitment to EDI is also apparent outside the classroom, as she volunteers for organizations like the Trevor Project and Be My Eyes and is a homeless prevention diversion fund provider for A Way Home Washington. Amy is also a Peace Professor and incorporates the Pillars of Peace into her coursework. Another one of Amy’s interests is research, as she has a natural love for learning. She has researched the impact of refugee simulations on participants’ character strengths, the impact of Collaborative Online International Learning on participants’ cultural humility and intercultural effectiveness, and the impact of strengths-based teaching on students’ self-efficacy. Amy also presents her research findings at local, regional, national, and international conferences.
