Elyssa Leininger

“I create Western and wildlife art to fulfill the desires of my soul to express myself. My works seek to convey my feelings, emotions, and love of the American West and its animals and wildlife to the viewers, so that they, too, may experience my passions.”

Elyssa Leininger's journey from her upbringing in Billings, Montana, to becoming an accomplished artist is truly inspiring. Her love for the American West landscapes, combined with her passion for various outdoor activities, laid the foundation for her unique artistic perspective. The pivotal moment in her life, the heart surgery and subsequent complications, acted as a catalyst for her artistic expression, leading her to view the world with a renewed sense of vibrancy and sacredness.

Elyssa's artistic journey took an international turn when she studied art in Italy in 2014. This experience deeply resonated with her, motivating her to pursue an art degree. Her academic achievements at Rocky Mountain College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in biology, a Bachelor of Arts in art, and a minor in psychology, reflect her dedication and multidimensional interests. The Rocky Mountain College Art Award further highlights her excellence in the field.

Recognition for Elyssa's talent extends beyond academic institutions, with numerous awards for her art and features in museums, auctions, and exhibits across the American West. Her contributions to the city of Billings, particularly the expansive mural on the busy underpass, showcase her commitment to making art accessible to the public.

Elyssa's involvement in various organizations, including the Western Heritage Artists Association and the Montana Pro Rodeo Hall and Wall of Fame, along with her philanthropic endeavors, underscores her sense of community and dedication to giving back. Her international outreach, bringing art supplies to an orphanage in Ethiopia and teaching children to paint and draw, reflects her desire to share the transformative power of art.

As a colorist, Elyssa employs color psychology to convey specific emotions and influence the moods of her audience. Described as "Montana Baroque," her work utilizes vivid colors and high contrast to create dramatic representations of the American West. Through her vibrant imagination, Elyssa aims to captivate and inspire all those who experience her art.
