Exciting news from the Global Women’s Peace Network in Arizona -Magazine Cover.jpg

The Global Women’s Peace Network (GWPN) is a project of WFWP that highlights women leadership and strengthens connections between like-minded organizations and individuals. This year GWPN has provided a platform for an impressive array of professional women who are leaders in their field through the virtual Reflect. Reset. Rebuild forum series (read about the latest one here), but that is not the only place where GWPN has been active.

In Arizona, where GWPN was officially launched on May 20, 2017, members have worked hard to promote the network and successfully published the first printed magazine of GWPN. When a large planned GWPN event had to be canceled in April due to the COVID-19 pandemic, GWPN Arizona Coordinator Glenda Lambert and others were not deterred and decided to find another way to honor the incredible ladies that they wished to present with HerStory Awards, a special recognition that WFWP offers to women who have overcome great challenges and used their abilities to serve others. And so the idea for the magazine was born.

Thanks to a coordinated effort by Glenda, WFWP Arizona Chairwoman Rhia Luz, Dr. Susan Taffer, Kim Evans and WFWP Western Regional Director Dr. Linda Nishikawa, the “HerStories Fall 2020” edition of GWPN Arizona was published in November. It features 36 accomplished, high profile women who have been actively involved in their local community and given back in inspiring ways.

One of these recipients is Filipino community leader Ethel Luzario. Together with her husband Ron Smith, she has been giving back and serving the local population for many years through the Phoenix Asian-American Lions Club. As well as being an accomplished realtor with more than 20 years of experience, Ethel co-founded a nonprofit called The 3000 Club (T3C) in 2010 whose mission is to alleviate hunger. Through this organization, she currently serves between 500 and 700 families every week.

On November 27, Rhia featured Ethel in an episode of her radio show Buhay Buhay sa Amerika and personally presented her with a copy of the GWPN magazine as she expressed gratitude for all that she was doing (click here to watch the episode).

Thank you and congratulations to all the members of GWPN in Arizona for making this happen! We are excited to see this beautiful tribute to women peace leaders who are living by the logic of love and hope it is the first of many more to come.
