The Schools of Africa thank YOU for your support in 2019
For the past 20 years, Women's Federation for World Peace USA has been consistently supporting the Schools of Africa Project, thanks to the wonderful efforts of local chapters and members around the country that continue to find ways to give.
Since the project began in 1994 with WFWP Japan, it has grown to now include ten schools in eight African countries, ranging from elementary and high schools to technical institutes that provide women with training in marketable skills such as dressmaking or business administration.
Last year, WFWP USA was able to raise a total of $43,464.03 through the combined efforts of the online fundraiser and chapter fundraisers all over the country such as this one in Northern California and another program organized by WFWP Girls in New Jersey. We would like to use this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for giving generously in the past year.
As a result of our efforts, we were able to send grants to the following schools in December 2019 and January 2020:
The Sun of Mozambique Junior and Senior High School received $3,600, which were used for much-needed building repairs and improvements.
The One Hope Garden Elementary School in Ethiopia was granted $11,800 to support their operating costs, chiefly the salaries of teachers and staff.
In Guinea-Bissau, the Sunac Elementary School received $5,000 to help pay their teachers and staff.
The Peace Hana School, located in Liberia, was given $15,000 to cover a variety of expenses ranging from teachers’ salaries to school facility repairs.
In Kenya, the Handow Secondary School has been expanding and $10,000 went towards the construction of a new school building.
Here is an excerpt from a letter of gratitude sent by one our grant recipients, the Sun of Mozambique Junior and Senior High School:
“We appreciate your donation for our school from the bottom of our hearts. We are greatly encouraged by it.
Thanks to your support, the Sun of Mozambique Junior and Senior High School with 560 students, 40 teachers and 14 school staff members in this school year, was able to set up a good educational environment, through floor tiling of three classrooms, iron net installation and tin roof installation.
Since our school project started in 1995, more than 12,000 students have studied and more than 600 students were accepted by major national universities.
Sincerely yours,
Akiko Hozan”
These words encourage us to keep striving for the sake of the Schools of Africa. Knowing that every dollar we give contributes towards the education of eager young children and youth and helps them achieve their dreams is a powerful motivator.
Fannie Smith, the National Coordinator for the Schools of Africa, extends her personal and heartfelt appreciation for your continued support. If you are interested to find out more and would like to donate yourself, please click here.
