Be an agent of hope: President’s Corner
Dear friends,
Greetings in this hopeful season of spring!
Over the past few weeks, our world as we know it has already been changing. We mourn the many lives that have been lost, and our hearts go out to those who are suffering right now in solitude in hospitals and homes.
However, a powerful transformation of many people's spirits and hearts is also taking place, which will have long-lasting effects in the future. Please watch this brief video of a man with the coronavirus who was on his way toward dying -- and then God "sent a cleaner."
It is a moving story, and, though it is Christian-based, it is one of many more that have been experienced by people of different faith traditions and beliefs all around the world.
A recent headline in the Jerusalem Post on April 2, 2020, said this: "Millions of Americans say coronavirus a 'wakeup call for us to turn back to faith in God.'" I believe it is -- and, at the same time, it is also a call to those who believe, people of all faiths, to put our faith (of any religion) into action, to make God's love and care visible and tangible to others, just as did the cleaner in the story. He reached out to the lonely patient not only with words of love and prayer, but also with an act of kindness, and gave him real hope.
Remember when the patient in the video said, "It was like a ray of sunshine, when the cleaner came in"? That cleaner could -- and should -- be each of us, too. God now more than ever needs people, instruments, and messengers who have the courage and will to carry out such acts of kindness and love toward others. And there are many "cleaners" out there among the throngs (now self-isolating). The human heart cannot be stopped, and therein lies the real hope!
It was also during the spring season, 28 years ago, that this very organization, the Women's Federation for World Peace International, was founded. It was on April 10, 1992, that Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon and her late husband, the Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon, were divinely inspired to launch this providential organization to announce "The Arrival of the Era of Women," calling on all women to play a more pivotal role in peacebuilding. They encouraged thousands of women to use their innate motherly heart to bring positive change to a wounded and war-stricken world, based on the philosophy of "Living for the Sake of Others" and "Living by the Logic of Love." Propelled by that heart, WFWP has accomplished much in a short time. (See article.)
We thank them for their great inspiration in making this simple and universal philosophy the common ground for all of this organization's activities, a philosophy that is most needed at such a time as this. Congratulations and happy 28th Anniversary to all women and men who have contributed to its growth and success locally and globally!
May all the seeds of kindness that have been sown and are being sown now bear rich fruit in the near future!
Wishing you a safe, healthy, and meaningful spring season and holy season -- Easter, Passover, Ramadan -- for all people of faith!
