Honoring the Legacy of Father Moon
September 4, 2020 marks the 8th anniversary since the passing of WFWP Co-Founder Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon, who dedicated his whole life for the sake of peace. Affectionately known as Father Moon, he established numerous organizations and peace initiatives around the globe together with his wife, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, who has taken on the mantle and continues their joint work to create a world of peace.
On this day, people around the world are going to hold commemorative events to honor his legacy and the many lives that he transformed throughout his lifetime. We invite you to take the time to view a special virtual exhibition that was created to celebrate the centenary of Father Moon’s birth. It includes a compilation of the major aspects of his extraordinary life, work and ideas and can be accessed here. Among many other things, Father Moon was a great advocate of women’s leadership.
In her recently published memoir, “Mother of Peace”, Mother Moon shares about the inauguration of WFWP and how her husband was her first supporter in “reach[ing] the world with our message of peace.” The following is an excerpt from the fourth chapter: “My husband and I founded the Women’s Federation for World Peace. After its inaugural rally at the Olympic Stadium in Seoul in April 1992, I held a series of events to launch Women’s Federation chapters in 40 Korean cities. [...] I saw the era of women that my husband and I were advocating taking shape before my eyes.”
