Bring Hope and Joy to Children in Jordan

The Middle East is often on the brink of war and it is not a safe place for children to grow up. “How can we bring joy to children in need?” This is what WFWP Jordan President Mrs. Fusayo Irikura asked herself, especially as she learned of an increase of crime among youth and children in the crowded and needy neighborhoods of Jordan's capital. Many of the students from the Jordan Arabic Literacy Project also have been forced to work part-time in order to support their families during the pandemic.

Thus, rather than focusing only on academic support and tutoring, WFWP Jordan also provides many opportunities for children to experience joy and receive character education through service projects, sports, and drama performances. No matter what these children may experience in the future, with a good foundation in their youth, they can overcome anything with a positive attitude and determination.

President Irikura says, "The need for an education curriculum in which our children are taught to respect and understand others is becoming more evident."

Thus, WFWP Jordan recently hosted a “Unity Peace Road” event in Amman, Sahab. This event was held under the patronage of the Provincial Governor of Sahab, Mr. Muhyiddin Al Aduwan and was also supported by the Ministry of Education.

A total of 200 students participated from different backgrounds and had the chance to meet each other and learn through a fun and engaging drama performance. Accepting others who are different from you and even finding strengths in the differences is something WFWP Jordan believes is important.

Many youths grow into adulthood not knowing the value of learning different cultures and being inspired by the arts. These youths tend to have little hope or ambition, seeing the war-torn environment around them, and it’s very common for many to be involved in crimes in order to get by. Providing them experiences such as this one helps build positive character and teach the value of friendships as a step to change the trajectory of Jordan's youth.
