President's Corner: June—Month of Celebrations

Dear friend,

We are so glad that many Covid restrictions have been lifted all around our country, and truly appreciate the opportunity to come together in celebration!

In fact, tomorrow, June 19, we honor and celebrate JUNETEENTH, an African-American holiday associated with the end of chattel slavery. It was established as an official federal holiday by Congress and President Biden just yesterday! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juneteenth

We honor and celebrate our WFWP USA women leaders of African-American descent, Rev. Dr. Juanita Pierre-Louis, our senior vice president; Mrs. Fannie Smith, our national Schools of Africa director; Mrs. Kathryn Davis, Global Women's Peace Network coordinator for Illinois and former regional coordinator, and many more!

Your contributions to Women's Federation here in the U.S. are truly noted and appreciated!

In this month of June, we also salute and honor our fathers, grandfathers, and husbands who faithfully love and serve our families and communities!

In June, we also celebrate the accomplishments of our next generation, as we participate in the many graduation ceremonies at all rungs of the educational ladder. These latter events are what truly give us hope for a brighter future, as we see so many extraordinary young men and women coming forward to make a difference in our world.

And last but not least, let us celebrate life —to be alive after having gone through many long months of social distancing and quarantines, now being able to go back out and meet family and friends over barbecue as we all also get ready for our national Independence Day on July 4.

Happy Month of Celebrations!

Angelika
