President's Corner: The Work for Peace Must Go On

Dear friend,

I pray that this newsletter finds you safe and well!!

Our hearts and prayers continue to go out to the suffering people in Haiti (click here to donate), the women and girls and Americans in Afghanistan (to help click here), and the victims of Hurricane Ida, which devastated large parts of Louisiana!

With that being said, our Founder, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, in a recent speech reminded us, "No matter what the circumstances around us may be, we must not stop our work for peace." The occasion was the ninth anniversary of the passing of her late husband, the Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon. The commemoration took place online on August 27, and was aired worldwide. Mother Moon's statement about never stopping the work for peace perfectly describes our Founders' heart and commitment to peace.

Father Moon's legacy and investment for world peace in just about every sector of human endeavor, from education to science, the media, economy, and academia, is now carried on by his wife and all the organizations they founded, such as WFWP. In fact, many of the seeds they have sown in all those areas are sprouting up and soon will bear fruit for all to see.

One of these endeavors, which has been closest to their hearts, has been and is the peaceful reunification of North and South Korea. To that end, the Global Women's Peace Network (a project of WFWP International) recently conducted a groundbreaking international forum entitled "A Unified Korea: Finding Seeds of Hope." Four speakers of North Korean descent shed light on and shared their stories as to what is going on in North Korea. The nearly 700 participants responded with a flood of questions. The presenters ended by sharing practical ideas for action that can be undertaken now to accelerate the peaceful reunification, and also action steps we can pursue now in preparation for what happens AFTERWARDS. (see video recording)

In her opening remarks, WFWP International President Dr. Julia Moon beautifully highlighted some of our Founders' quiet but impactful initiatives over many decades aiming toward a unified Korea. The Moons' multidimensional vision and unique approach to creating peace on the Korean Peninsula has not been known to many, nor has their philosophy of embracing the enemy and finding ways to create trust.

Korean reunification is only one of countless projects and organizations Father and Mother Moon initiated and invested themselves into over the course of their lives, always thinking of God's vision for a peaceful world and not sparing any effort or sacrifice to love and embrace humanity.

If you have known or met Dr. Sun Myung Moon in his lifetime, please feel free to share your reflections with us, which we will pass along to his wife.

Indeed, the work for peace must and will continue, also on the home front, in our families, and communities, especially through enlightened women with a mother's heart, which is needed everywhere.

Enjoy this issue and stay healthy and safe!

Sincerely,

Angelika
