Grateful to Partner with WFWP Again

Unity and Cooperation have often been the theme of projects I have organized in the USA and Honduras, or in any other nation I have worked in. Most recently, I am working on a collaborative project to teach Character Education in the public schools in Honduras. In the past, Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) has been one of our project partners in Honduras. I’m happy to announce that WFWP will be collaborating with us again in a very special way this time, along with the City administration of Tela, Honduras, PeaceIN (a project of Universal Peace Federation), and Y Service of North Jersey (an offshoot and service branch of the YMCA), along with Professor Alan Saunders – educational advisor for the Center for Leadership and Character Education.

After working on a Peace Park in Tela, Honduras, the mayor of the city of Tela asked our group to suggest ways to advance peace in the city.  Mario Salinas, Honduras UPF director and I suggested the institution of Character Education in the public school system, which was soon presented to a group comprised of 25 individuals, including the Vice Mayor of Tela, Tela City Council members, school principals, teachers, police and emergency representatives, a city lawyer and others. They were aptly impressed and inspired.

Our next step was to hold a half-day Character Education workshop for teachers who might be interested in our program.  We had hoped to have 20-30 participants; however, to our immense joy it was attended by 75 school teachers! In addition, six of us joined by ZOOM from the USA. The follow-up to this program will be an in-person, three-day Character Education workshop in November.  One of our greatest desires has been to have some young adults attend this workshop in the hope of inheriting the project or creating their own personal ways of advancing these activities.  I am so happy to announce that WFWP, with the true heart of a mother, will be partnering with us specifically to support the three young adults from the USA and from Honduras who will be taking part in this November project. The young people will be participating in order to become familiar with and understand the material and its facilitation, as well as coming to understand the vision of the entire project (see project proposal)

Our greater hope, on the expected success of the initial project, is to expand the Character Education curriculum to other cities in Honduras, thus encouraging this nation to restore its international image and become a nation of service and care. Thank you WFWP for your support.
