Upgrade with WFWP USA Grant 2023 Schools of Africa Project
WFWP USA has been a proud supporter of the Schools of Africa Project for 20 years, with the help of generous donor contributions, and the project currently provides quality education for students in eight African nations, including Mozambique.
The Sun of Mozambique Secondary School, started by WFWP Japan in 1995, initially had only 44 students. The current building was completed in 1998 and now hosts approximately 500-600 students each year. The school offers quality education at a low fee. In addition to this, the school also provides scholarship programs to deserving students, and a library and computer lab facilities. The school has earned a worthy reputation, impacting the lives of over 13,000 graduates, many of whom have gone on to attend university.
Each year, WFWP chapters across the U.S. organize bake sales, yard sales, black tie events, auctions, African cultural events, and various other types of fundraisers to support the Schools of Africa Project.
In exchange, we hear directly from our WFWP Project Directors about how the money was used. Below are pictures and a short explanation from Akiko Hozan, WFWP Mozambique project director.
Sun of Mozambique Secondary School received $6742 from WFWP USA this year and has used the money to make the following updates to the building:
1) Installation of iron nets
The perimeter of the school is 200m, of which 50m was the old enclosure. That part was newly constructed with iron nets.
2) Installation of new blocks in the courtyard
The courtyard was the original since the building was constructed in 1995. This year we laid new blocks in the school yard. First, we bought blocks from a nearby factory and unloaded them from a large truck. Then we tore up the old cement, cleared the land, and put the new blocks there.
Thank you all for your heart work to raise funds for the Schools of Africa. Let’s continue in this worthwhile endeavor!
