What If We Got It All Wrong?
I have a working theory.
I suspect the human psyche has a profoundly deep longing… something that has gone unanswered for our entire human history.
And I believe now is the time for us to uncover the truth of it all.
Our western society has developed on the premise that the nature of our creator is that of a man or a father. If we understand the nature of our creator from this perspective, it’s very natural that we turn to the men in our families as the moral compass of our families and communities. We should be grateful for the strength of our moral male leaders and we’ve certainly benefited from the perspective of our fathers, husbands and sons. However, I don’t think it would be unreasonable to suggest that there is a growing sense of unrest in the spiritual and religious circle. It seems people are unsatisfied and that we are, perhaps, missing an essential ingredient in our approach.
A growing number of what might be considered “outlier” spiritual groups are forming which honor the divine feminine. Those who find their way to these internal practices have found profound inner peace that has healed unresolved areas of their lives as a result of a more male-centered spiritual and moral compass. They’ve benefited from exposure and interaction with a divine feminine being. It seems as if it’s an answer to the missing essential ingredient. But is it truly enough? There are still many who cannot find what they’re looking for in such circles. Is something missing here too?
These two worlds have been at odds with each other, each claiming one is more true than the other. But is it possible to simultaneously hold space for both? Is it possible that they are both right? Is it possible we’ve had the wrong picture from the beginning? Is this the reason people feel frustrated with religion and spiritual practice? What if both perspectives are right? What if we need to go back to the beginning and reframe the entire story?
“I talk about Heavenly Mother, hidden behind Heavenly Father… You want us to know You as our Heavenly Parent, the One who is the love of Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother.
-Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, Mother of Peace, Founder of WFWP
This revelation shared by Mother Moon is perhaps one of the most impactful aspects of her peace philosophy that has transformed my life. It’s the reason I hold the Presidential position in this organization. This was the story I felt the world needed to know.
The answer to our moral and spiritual dilemma is not one or the other. It is both. The identity of our creator is that of a parent which holds both masculine and feminine qualities. One is not more important than the other. We need both. Just like we need the unique strengths and attributes of both men and women in society.
I think we’ve gotten it wrong all along, and I believe the pains we see in our society are a result of this fundamental misunderstanding. The more we can uncover this core essence of our creator, the more we will find what we’ve been looking for all along.
