Ohio Celebrates Women’s Month
On March 30, 2024, the WFWP-Ohio chapter hosted its inaugural HerStory Award ceremony in commemoration of International Women's Day and Women's History Month. The atmosphere brimmed with joy and celebration as fifty individuals gathered to honor three outstanding women in the community.
The event was graciously led by Mrs. Kaori Becker, who warmly welcomed all attendees and provided an insightful introduction to the work of WFWP through an engaging video presentation. Following this, Mrs. Fatou Sarr, President of the WFWP Ohio Chapter, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all present, sharing from WFWP founder Mother Moon’s memoir and quoted: "The time has come for the true power of womanhood to save the world."
Opening entertainment was a beautiful dance by one of the young ladies. Soon after the event commenced and the emcee introduced the awardees.
The first awardee was Mrs. Daisyvel Fukuzawa, the founder of Hope, Faith, and Love International. Originally from the Philippines, she established her organization with a clear purpose: to provide unwavering support to the homeless population. Mrs. Fukuzawa articulates her mission with heartfelt conviction, advocating for the unconditional love and aid owed to those less fortunate. Each year, she tirelessly orchestrates fundraising efforts to ensure her organization's capacity to assist those in greatest need. Her dedication brings her immeasurable joy, knowing she plays a pivotal role in fostering peace and stability in the lives of fellow human beings.
The next awardee was Ms. Tammy Doby, CEO of the Urban Minority Alcoholism Drug Abuse Outreach Program in Franklin County. Reflecting on her past, she warmly recounted the challenging decision she made as a teenager to venture out on her own, away from the comforts of home. Through sheer resilience, she not only overcame obstacles but exceeded her own expectations. Transitioning into her current role, she realized her true calling lay in grassroots community service. Ms. Doby passionately dedicates herself to ensuring individuals grappling with addiction have access to vital resources and unwavering support. Her efforts have resulted in happier, healthier individuals and families within the community.
The awardee was Ms. Natalia Lebedin, chair of the Ukraine Cultural Association of Ohio. During her heartfelt speech, she shared poignant family history, recounting her grandfather's impoverished upbringing during the war. Despite hardship, her family persevered, eventually relocating to Canada. Raised with a deep appreciation for heritage and community, Ms. Lebedin emphasizes the importance of honoring one's roots. She passionately raises awareness about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, recognizing the tendency for distant crises to feel disconnected from our daily lives. Yet, she underscores the crucial need for empathy and action, stressing that only through awareness can we pave the path towards peace amidst adversity.
After the heartfelt speeches from each awardee, the room was filled with anticipation as the raffle commenced, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event. Winners cheered and celebrated their luck, enhancing the sense of joy in the room. Following the raffle, attendees gathered to enjoy a delicious lunch together and engaged in conversation.
We would like to congratulate all awardees for sharing their stories and reminding us that peace can only come about when we support each other and work together.
