LADY ON THE AIR: ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF BUHAY BUHAY SA AMERIKA

Even though it may not seem like it, every person you meet and connect with is a stepping stone to accomplishing your dreams. Rhia Luz had a childhood dream of being a radio host. Her lack of confidence at that point caused her to give up the dream. “I always wanted to be one, but I didn't have the confidence, I didn't think I could do it, being on radio and video.” Years later, through her connections with WFWP, her dream came true.

A Spanish radio station in Arizona had invited WFWP to speak at their station for the 25th Anniversary Celebration of WFWP. Rhia was there together with President Angelika Selle and Vice President Katarina Connery as the Chairwoman for that area. Talking to their host after the show, she mentioned that they should do shows connecting to the other communities in the area as well. “I asked the Radio station producer to open their station to non-Spanish radio shows because the Filipino Community didn’t have a radio show at present, and they gave it to me without any experience just faith and guts.”

Rhia’s show, Buhay-Buhay Sa Amerika (Life-Life in America) promotes traditional Filipino values, highlights inspiring stories, and showcases the musical talents of local artists. The Filipino community has gained so much from Rhia’s show in the past year. It is with their support she is able to host the 1st Anniversary Celebration on August 25th in Phoenix Arizona where she will be honoring eight long-time married couples in her community and continuing to spread her message of values, family, music, and joy. Every community needs a voice, someone to celebrate with them about life and the things that really matter.
