WOMEN LEADERS OF PEACE HONORED

The ladies of the Arizona Chapter of WFWP organized an International Women’s Family Day on March 11. There are a few phenomenal women and organizations that have contributed unselfishly to the community and WFWP decided to honor them on that day. There was a good turnout of around 50 people there.

Since October 2016, Arizona has been blessed to have Fire Chief Kara Kalkbrenner and Police Chief Jeri Williams as the heads of their organizations and women leaders. We honored Chief Kara with a HerStory award. Chief Jeri will meet with us in April to receive her HerStory award.

The big event took place at the Daley Park right across from our Peace Embassy in Tempe, Arizona. The weather was perfect and the kids had a great time using the bouncing house, playing tug of war, competing in the egg spoon race and sack jumping race, enjoying music and dancing.

Susan Berman, CEO of Fresh Start Women's Foundation, spoke. WFWP also honored her by presenting her the HerStory award at that time. Another organization that was given the award was the Family Federation Youth Ministry for their unselfish love and commitment to empower and guide the young adults in our community.

Beverley Tidwell was also honored with a HerStory award for her work with the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Tucson. She works incredibly hard to support and love families whose children are suffering from cancer.

Our special sister Rev Betty Tatalajski, Founder of the Temple of Universality from Tucson, also attended the event and fave some wonderful insights to all who were present. Max Lambert and his sous-chef Nate were our cooks and provided us with hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, and other American delicacies for our nourishment.

WFWP works with an organization called the National Council of Negro Women. Ms. Ebony Hunter is the President. She shared with us what her organization does and our common hope to work together as women to bring about peace in our communities.

It was truly a celebration attended by profound women leaders of peace!
