CHARITY EVENTS DON’T HAVE TO BE STUFFY
It is so simple. I am not sure why it had not hit me until now. The magic formula in making an awesome event was boiled down to two ingredients: A good time, and a good cause.
Imagine going with your friends to a concert on Friday night, experiencing new sounds, people, food, and music. When you begin to immerse yourself in the music, it draws you in and plays with your emotions. The commendable techniques, talent, and unique rhythms set you in a trance state of discovery.
Each performer that steps on stage jolts you with the element of surprise as you make your assumptions as to what you are about to witness. As you let go of your assumptions and let the music take over, you are elevated to a heightened sense of awareness and appreciation for the variety of music that has been brought into your life. Each band, performer, and group exemplifies a unique spectrum of self-expression through music. And when these diverse groups are showcased together, it makes for an enriching experience.
The final cherry on top is when you remember the reason you came in the first place. Your support for a cause or charity is what initially got you through the door.
This was much like my experience on August the 28 in Tarrytown, New York. I had the privilege of showcasing our Women’s Federation for World Peace 1% Love Share Project at a benefit concert hosted by the Westchester chapter of CARP (Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles). The organizer, Wonky Todd, has a special passion for music and for making a difference in the community. I was really impressed to see the quality of performers from a variety of genres, including pop-rock, rap, classical jazz, and heavy metal.
It was a refreshing experience, and reminded me that not all charity programs must be filled with formal forums, panelists, and discussions. It also inspired me to consider the simple, creative ways I could bring people together for a good cause. What about you? What is something that drives and inspires you?
