LIGHTING UP THE DANCE FLOOR: WFWP LAS VEGAS CHAPTER DINNER/DANCE FUNDRAISER
WFWP members and supporters enjoyed a festive dinner/dance fundraiser hosted by Lorna Todd, WFWP co-chairwoman in Las Vegas, and her husband Thomas, at the Italian-American Club on Saturday, July 21. Approximately 50 guests attended and enjoyed authentic Italian food before the dance began. After dinner, guests adjourned to the dance venue, where desserts of tiramisu and cannoli were served, and enjoyed the magic show of Ms. Georgette, a magician for 30-odd years who has performed in Las Vegas for the past six years with her sidekick comedian and impersonator Tommy Ferante. Both Ms. Georgette and Mr. Ferante perform every Wednesday at the Amazing Clown here in Las Vegas.
Guests enjoyed music from the 70s, 80s and 90s, provided by the Filipino group JAS (Jun, Au and Sonny) Band. Au, the lead singer, has a beautiful voice and gave a heart-felt rendition of Adele's song "Fire in Rain." Everybody had fun on the dance floor, especially the young Japanese missionaries who attended. At one point the whole group did the "Cha-cha slide" with Sonny, who is also a choreographer by profession. The dance ended just a few minutes before midnight. Between dances, we had raffle drawings for the five beautiful baskets full of goodies from Trader Joe's and Melaleuca. There were also door prizes donated by individuals. Proceeds of this raffle went to the WFWP Las Vegas project, Share Care Basket, a mission to prepare baskets of holiday goodies to be given to deserving and indigent families. In 2013, Share Care Baskets will be prepared for holidays, as well as school start-up supplies. WFWP will be partnering with a local outreach program for battered women.
We look forward to more fun activities with WFWP Las Vegas to raise funds for our giving projects and for our Clean Slate purity education program!
