PROVIDING FOR THOSE WITHOUT

Thanks to the steadfastness of Dottie Chicquelo, chairwoman for community outreach of the MD chapter, members recently volunteered their time and effort at the “Santa Shop” of the Shepherd’s Cove Women’s Shelter in Capitol Heights, Maryland.

Generous donors and community organizations had already provided a multitude of toys, games, books, musical instruments, and clothing -- gifts for children ranging in age from infant to teen. On December 20, representatives of the WFWP Maryland chapter gathered at the shelter to assist staff in sorting and organizing these gifts in preparation for an orderly distribution.

It was amazing to experience the loving generosity of donors as bag after bag of gifts flowed into the distribution room. It was easy for us as volunteers to imagine the joy that would soon erupt among the recipient children and their parents.

In spite of the joyful aspect of our work, we felt strongly how much better it will be when every family can live in a safe and warm home of their own and there will no longer be a need for shelters such as these.
