STUDENTS INSPIRED AND EAGER TO SERVE: NEW MARYLAND CHAIRWOMAN JOINS DAY OF SERVICE
I was impressed by the fact that, when I arrived at around 9:15 in the morning, Minister Chi was already there. She had already set up the registration table and had managed to obtain many tools (shovels, rakes, and brooms), from the DPW (Department of Public Works). She was gracious in welcoming all the guests, teachers, and students.
The excitement of the students was inspiring. They were eager and upbeat. I noticed that some of the teachers took responsibility for keeping the students focused and motivated while they were waiting for the program to begin. Upon returning from their sidewalk-cleaning service, the students were still enthusiastic and energetic. They greatly appreciated the lunch as well as the gift bags that were donated and prepared by Mrs. Connery. It was like an early Christmas for them.
Elizabeth Aihe had managed to obtain generous donations of food and drink from local merchants. A few of them came into the meeting themselves and seemed impressed. It was obvious that they appreciate the efforts made by this annual service project in their neighborhood.
It is good to offer something positive to the community, and it is good to see children involved in acts of service. I believe everyone benefited from the experience.
