ALL LIVES MATTER: NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME
“All Lives Matter, whether black, yellow, red, white, brown or blue, ALL lives matter,” shouts one African American resident of Lansdowne, Pennsylvania during the Community Event called “Night Out Against Crime.”
On August 2 this year, more than 500 people came and joined this annual gathering. It is a partnership of government officials, business owners, and political and community leaders; most especially with the police and fire departments to create understanding, unity, and peaceful cooperation within diversity. The Pennsylvania Chapter of WFWP had a display table at the event.
How can we unite and embrace the “other?” Why are we still calling people “others” instead of family? Do we make an effort to know who the different citizens in our community are? How can the people of today become more civic-minded?
These are the questions that the members of WFWP are tackling and working to resolve here in Pennsylvania. At the WFWP display table, volunteers spoke with people about what the chapter is doing in the community to foster understanding and cooperation among all parts of the community. Pennsylvania State Representative Margo Davidson and the Mayor of Lansdowne, Mr. Tony Campuzano, came and actively participated as well.
Before the sun set on Lansdowne, those who came were fully informed that it takes a village or, in this case, a town like Lansdowne, working together to maintain a peaceful neighborhood. Since its inception, the Pennsylvania Chapter of WFWP has been actively involved in bringing awareness to civic-minded citizens how to respond with love to the shocking events around the world and in the country that bring fear into the lives of American citizens.
Let us honor all humankind in our society. Truly, ALL lives matter!
