PLANTING THE SEEDS OF TOMORROW: LUNIS KINDERWORLD IN NEPAL COMPLETED

Most, if not all, of us have some memory of being significantly impacted by a teacher. For me, it was my 5th grade homeroom teacher, Mrs. Benoit. Coming from a family full of educators, I understand the importance of schools, teachers, and a solid education on the life of a child. For those children who have the opportunity to attend school full- or part-time, many of their waking hours are spent interacting with teachers and other students in the classroom. Not only are their intellects formed within those walls (or outdoors!), but also their hearts and characters, in lessons that will last most of their lives. As you can imagine, a positive or negative experience can have significant repercussions.

Which is why, in 2016, Purushottam Karki and his wife set out with a commitment to create a loving and stimulating learning environment for the children of their rural village in Nepal. Lunis Kinderworld started with a mission to provide a place where children can learn through fun and enrichment, rather than through rote memorization and corporal punishment that Karki saw in many local schools. While the bottom line of getting education to all children is so important across the globe, Karki had a vision to take it a step further and also focus on the quality of that education. Parents who did not realize there could be a distinction were amazed to see their children transformed from dreading school to eagerly waiting for Monday to come.

We at WFWP USA are pleased to announce that the new school building for Lunis Kinderworld has been completed! After a few setbacks in construction last year, the children can finally move into their new spacious and airy classrooms. The Karki family can now also enjoy their home again, which they used as makeshift classrooms for the last few years, so committed they were to their dream for the school.

A huge THANK YOU to all the amazing and generous donors from around the country. Your gifts, both big and small, helped make this possible! Thanks to you, Lunis Kinderworld is even more empowered to provide a loving learning environment to the children and possibly even expand in the coming years. They are also able to provide continuing education to the parents on how to contribute to the inner growth of their children as well as trainings for local teachers of nearby schools. Though located in rural Nepal, they are teaching the children to have a global mindset and to think, even now, about how to serve their communities and humanity.

We are very proud to have been part of the school’s development and Lunis Kinderworld will surely continue to make a positive impact on the minds and hearts of the children in their care. Together we will continue to plant the seeds of tomorrow in Nepal and elsewhere.
