Hats from the heart

WFWP San Diego has begun working with "Hearts and Hands, A Yarn Ministry." I have been busy preparing items to donate. The pictures are hats for the homeless and cancer patients in the San Diego area.

The women of the Hearts and Hands group also make lacy shawls, baby blankets, and hats that will be donated to homeless men and women in San Diego, cancer patients, and new mothers who might not have any money for clothing or a blanket in a hospital, and they knit and crochet much much more for charity. They donate items to Ronald McDonald house charity, to parents staying at Ronald McDonald House, to the homeless men, women, and children in San Diego. They also donate to the poor people in Romania, to the children's hospital in San Diego, to low-income mothers, who are giving birth to new-born babies who would otherwise have nothing.

Several churches in and around the San Diego area are coming to the conference that will be held, as well as women who either want to serve by donation, or serve by making, by learning to crochet or knit, or learning new techniques from other sisters, to make more things. All yarn is donated by several organizations, people, churches, etc. They take what they want to make that week, including borrowing the tools to make the item, and return them back to the group to be donated to the charities.

This is a yearly donation, and the group is meeting weekly. They even have a man who knits, who just started recently. He has mental challenges and loves to share stories, discuss life while knitting, as do we all.

So it's exciting to offer a warm blanket, shawl, hat or scarf to an adult, child or senior who is in need.
