SUSTAIN DR. HAK JA HAN’S MESSAGE “PEACE STARTS WITH ME” AND WFWP’S SCHOOLS OF AFRICA
A message from Mrs. Fannie M. Smith, WFWP’s National Schools of Africa Coordinator:
It is hard to believe that we are entering the last quarter of 2017. Yes, it has been a very eventful year in more ways than one; WFWP is still celebrating its 25th Anniversary!
Although I was not able to attend the honorable visit of Mother Moon to the US in New York’s Madison Square Garden, I am so inspired by the initiatives for Peace and Love that she shared and affirmed the validity of our support for the needy and less fortunate. As I viewed the videos and pictures, thoughts of our Schools of Africa children came to mind.
In July 2017, WFWP USA sent grants to the schools totaling $30,000. See below how the donations from you, our readers, and chapter fundraisers around the nation are making an impact in the lives of women and children in Africa:
Pictured in this article are a few photos from the Sun of Mozambique Secondary School, and what was purchased with the $6,000 grant they received in July. The funds enabled them to upgrade from concrete floors to tiled flooring in their school library, teachers’ room, and the principal’s office. They also purchased an additional printer, installed two ceiling fans for a classroom, and repainted the school building. Many of the items we may take for granted, like a simple fan, make a tremendous difference for the students and teachers!
The One Hope Garden Primary School in Ethiopia received $13,000 for operating cost, such as payment to teachers & staff, rent, school maintenance and other equipment. Read the additional article in this newsletter so see the impact this school is making in their community.
The Social Self-Support Assistance Center in Senegal received $4,000. The center offers four year courses to women in sewing, knitting, embroidery, and home economics. With the grant, they will purchase additional industrial sewing machines and school equipment to serve more students.
The Sunac Elementary School in Guinea Bissau received $1000. They will be able to do needed repairs, and buy sandbags to fill a depression around the school gate.
The Peace Hana School in Liberia received a $6,000 grant. This will provide funds to pay teachers & staff, and for facility repairs for the daycare, kindergarten, and elementary school in Liberia.
In the four remaining months of this year, our chapters are planning new Schools of Africa Benefit programs, that are sure to be successful with your support!
Our students in Africa often do not have parents to take them for “back to school” clothing and supplies. Many are just fortunate to have a school to send their children.
If we are successful now, we can give gifts that last forever: courage, empowerment, hope and most of all “LOVE”!
God Bless you, our supporters, I know I can depend on you!
