On September 29th and 30th, WFWP Texas decided to promote their activities at a local festival called “Western Days Festival” in the city of Lewisville. It was a great opportunity to expose WFWP to the public. We used the event to ask for donations for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. One Japanese WFWP member suggested that they make origami to attract people and give them out as a “thank you” to those who give a donation. She was able to mobilize several of her friends to make enough origami to fill a basket at our table

The festival opened at 5 PM on September 29 with loud music, entertainment, and food. The next day, the festival opened at 9 AM. It started with a huge, beautiful parade, to show off everything from this part of Texas, from cows to horses to tractors. Throughout the day, people were streaming from booth to booth. WFWP volunteers came in pairs to monitor the booth on a rotational basis. All day long, until we finished at 7:30 PM, we were introducing WFWP and giving out WFWP bookmarks and business cards with our info. It was a long day, but it was worth it.

Dozens of women expressed their interest in becoming members of WFWP and gave us their contact information. One lady said, “I love your organization and I am so glad that I have found you.” The origami we gave out were indeed a popular item and attracted many people to our table. We look forward to expanding our network through our new contacts. The event was an unchartered territory for WFWP Texas, but it was very much worth the effort!
