LET'S TOAST MARRIAGE AND FAMILY

The theme of marriage and family is as inspiring as it is universal. We, in the Dallas Chapter of WFWP, have confidence that championing that theme will allow us to bring many people together beyond racial and religious differences and to uplift the grand design of our Creator, as recognized by people from all faiths and walks of life.

On Saturday, May 7, WFWP Dallas held a simple but lovely celebration of marriage and family in one of the fellowship rooms of the Garden Ridge Church of Christ. Golden tablecloths with floral centerpieces adorned the tables to create a beautiful celebratory atmosphere to welcome the participants. Bountiful food and tasty drinks awaited the guests as well.

Prior to that day, we had gone door to door in the neighborhoods near the venue, and had received a genuinely warm welcome on each doorstep in the area. The topic has a strong appeal, and many people expressed gratitude for our efforts. In the end, though, the guests who came joined us because of the enduring friendships we had already cultivated with them.

The program began with a short introduction to the mission and vision of WFWP by Ms. Laura Lea, who then introduced our new chapter chairwoman Ms. Justine Cherutich. Justine shared her testimony with the audience including passionate remarks about the importance of the family based on her own experiences. Our long-standing friend and ambassador for peace, Dr. J. Ester Davis, gave a report about the UN Women's Summit that she had recently attended representing the Dallas Chapter. Ester is a media presence and local activist, and shared a mature perspective, giving a stirring report about her experience in New York. We enjoyed refreshments and toasted marriage and family with glasses raised high! We enjoyed the entertainment and were moved by several songs sung by David Roush, a professional musician and friend of Justine's and her sister, Odette Bilolo. Rev. John Jackson, gave a heartfelt testimony to the importance of the love of mothers, and led a closing prayer.

All in all, it was a celebration to remember and to keep deep in our hearts the importance of family and of mother’s love that creates harmony and health for all members of the family. Let’s work hard to bring a mother’s heart to our families to become contributions to establishing peace in our communities and neighborhoods. Cheers!
