Editor’s note: It only takes one person who is inspired by the vision of Women’s Federation for World Peace to get the ball rolling. One chapter in Houston, Texas, is just starting out and already gaining members thanks to the initiative of Wendy Dayagon, who recently became the local WFWP representative in the area. After her first event in late August (read report here), which was done in collaboration with another organization, she is working hard to establish a solid foundation for a chapter and we applaud her efforts.

On Sunday, October 13th, 2019, WFWP Houston Representative Wendy Dayagon addressed the congregation of the Houston Family Church after their regular Sunday service and held an introductory session on WFWP.

Wendy shared about the organization’s vision and mission, and proceeded to spotlight some of the many projects that WFWP is involved with both nationally and internationally. She placed a special focus on the Schools of Africa Project, which WFWP USA has been supporting for almost two decades now, and showed her audience a video introducing the project and its lasting impact on the lives of many children in eight African countries.

Many of the 25 women present in the audience had not heard of the Schools of Africa Project before and were very moved by this presentation. “Wow,” said one participant. “This is a very good project.”

At the end of her 45 minute presentation, Wendy passed out WFWP membership forms and then everyone enjoyed lunch and fellowship together. One lady was so inspired that she submitted a membership form to join WFWP, and Wendy is following up with others whose interest was sparked through this event.

“It’s been so long since we did anything for WFWP here,” Wendy explained. “I am taking baby steps.”

She now wants to activate the women by initiating a local service project. At the annual Christmas event hosted by the Filipino community, which will take place on December 13 and 14, she is planning to organize a collection of canned goods for a local women’s shelter. The hope is that this will become a regular project for the local WFWP chapter.
