To love nature is to love God

At the Midwest launch of the Global Women’s Peace Network in Chicago on October 18, 2019, the afternoon program included group discussions on projects that GWPN could potentially develop in the future. WFWP is in the process of starting up national and regional committees and we are using the launching events as an opportunity to receive valuable input from women leaders in many fields.

One of the topics that was highlighted at the discussion in Chicago was “a project to eliminate poverty and help women develop the ability to help themselves.” All the panelists happened to be at one table, as well as WFWP USA President Angelika Selle and WFWP International Senior Vice President Dr. Sun Jin Moon and her husband Insup Park. Deep content was shared about the topic, and the focus was on empowering women to help themselves, whether it be through education, mentorship, or other programs. Dr. Moon then brought up the issue of healing and spirituality, and the discussion turned towards how women can receive healing.

Since Dr. Moon resides in Hawaii, a place famed for its natural beauty, she spoke of the healing power of nature and its ability to enrich us spiritually. Others at the table revealed how outdoor activities like gardening were therapeutic to them and a variety of projects to encourage gardening were suggested.

A few days later, President Selle received an article from Dr. Moon to be shared with all our WFWP members and friends. The article, entitled “Gardening could be the hobby that helps you live to 100,” offers scientific evidence for the healing power of nature and in particular the activity of gardening, and we invite you to take a couple of minutes to read it. It offers insight into how people who spend time gardening and walking in nature have reduced risk of heart disease, anxiety, stress, dementia and other issues. Time to start digging!
