Editor’s note: WFWP Las Vegas partners with like-minded organizations and individuals to promote education and other much-needed services to the community. One such organization is the Global Charity Foundation, and the local WFWP chapter recently supported their annual fundraising gala with a table and some beautiful entertainment offerings. Chairwoman Sera Hirano shared her report on the event, which she felt was a positive inspiration to all who attended.

On Friday, Feb. 29, 2020, the Las Vegas chapter of WFWP was happy to support the 9th Annual Fundraiser Gala for Global Charity Foundation (GCF), which was founded by Dr. Reeta Kaul Thukral. Their mission is to provide educational assistance and healthcare to less privileged children locally and globally. In the greater Las Vegas area, they have academic assistance programs for “at-risk” elementary, middle and soon high school students in several Title 1 schools, using small group tutoring modules. Globally, GCF is active in New Delhi, India, where the foundation provides chemotherapy treatment for children diagnosed with cancer. Please visit and learn more at https://www.gcfcares.org/

Dr. Reeta is a long-time friend of WFWP USA Special Liaison Officer Aimmee Kodachian, and was introduced to WFWP several years ago. She understands that education is a primary key to overcoming poverty, and as a result has ignited many community supporters in her quest to enlighten youth to believe in their own potential and succeed in academics.

On the evening of the gala, volunteers and major supporters were awarded and recognized for their generosity and commitment. Four students were presented with new laptop computers for their outstanding academic improvement in math, reading and writing. On stage they gave testimonials as to how the GCF tutoring program helped them to improve their grades through better comprehension in all subjects. It was very endearing and sweet to hear the reflections in the students’ own words.

Renita K. Thukral, Dr. Reeta’s daughter and a member of the GCF Board of Directors, gave an inspiring presentation of the impressive data results of the GCF program. Many concerned community members such as Mr. Adam Ganz, currently running for District Court Judge, and his wife, were in attendance and enjoyed the live auction, the silent auction and the raffle and generously gave to support the program and help keep it going.

WFWP member Kumae Jares and her colleagues, who comprise the traditional Korean dance team “Cham Sarang”, generously donated a beautiful performance to the Asian themed event, delighting the crowd with the traditional Korean music and choreography. Our long-time WFWP supporter, vocalist Stephanie Thompson, entertained the philanthropic audience of more than 250 guests with her singing.

Due to her tireless investment for at-risk youths’ academic success, WFWP nominated Dr. Reeta to receive the Ambassador of Peace appointment from the Universal Peace Federation (UPF), a sister organization to WFWP. As a natural extension of that, she has become close to many of the Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles (CARP) students, supporting CARP programs here in Las Vegas.

In an effort to encourage more of our partner organizations to attend, we reached out to the like-minded Family Education and Empowerment Foundation (FEEF). They generously bought two tickets but were unable to attend due to other obligations, so filling in for them were Dr. Eric Richardson and daughter Abby Richardson, who could together also represent CARP. Leslie Rigney, Executive Director of UPF Las Vegas, also attended and Raluca Heim, Mary Hida and Sera Hirano completed the WFWP table. It was a great pleasure to get to know Mr. Ganz and his wife, who were also seated with us.

The evening was a wonderful example of how a seed of hope sparked in someone’s heart and an unwavering commitment to the lives of children and their families can help to bring people together and build a safer and more prosperous community. Thank you, Dr. Reeta Thukral. Thank you to everyone at GCF.
