President's Corner: Ways to Peace

Dear Friend,

As of today, Feb. 24, 2022, Russia and Ukraine are at war. What terrible and sad news at this time in modern history, on top of so many other crises the world is facing.

Clearly, it is high time to (re)direct our attention to solutions beyond politics, economics, and human rights, which are only some of the dimensions for solving humanity's problems and crises, of which there are too many. Where then would the answers come from? And who will implement a new trajectory that is finally conducive to peace?

In my view, the answer must come from a "Higher Place" and also from the grass roots, the people who experience the sufferings and hardships and most likely have the best insights and ideas as to what it would take to bring solutions, based on their needs. And yes, it must especially come from women and mothers!

This last point was noted in one of the sessions of Think Tank 2022 of the Americas, hosted by the Universal Peace Federation in collaboration with the Women's Federation for World Peace (WFWP) and the International Association of First Ladies for Peace (IAFLP).  In this virtual gathering this past Feb. 3, women leaders discussed women's perspectives toward peace as applied to working toward a peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula. During the discussion portion, basic points were made as to why and how women leaders can be and are agents of positive change, not only in their own families but also in the greater society, nation, and world (see article).

We once again congratulate our Founders who celebrated their birthdays (which are on the same day) on Feb. 6 in Seoul, Korea in the context of World Summit 2022, which was attended in  person  by several heads of states and prominent world leaders from every sector of society. All events were globally live streamed from Korea, reaching millions with new hope and vision for peace—all initiated and hosted by Mother Moon. All prominent participants lent their collective intellect and heart to focus on solutions for peace on the Korean Peninsula and peace in the world at large.

Last but not least, I would like to give a shout-out to our black brothers and sisters and black communities here in the United States. Thanks go to them for their invaluable and historic contributions to America and the world, in spite of often having to struggle through conditions of inhumaneness and unjust treatment! Congratulations to all on Black History Month!

In conclusion, how do we affect peace and who will implement it?

I see it is the great works of ordinary people and of leaders of peace, such as our Founders, that we ought to pay attention to. I believe realistic solutions for peace will more likely come from them, based on their substantial actions. They are the ones leading and implementing a new trajectory to peace by their example!

Here is to sustainable Peace!

Angelika
