Empowering Education: WFWP Chicago Fundraiser for Schools of Africa Project
Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) Chicago hosted a fundraising event on December 2, 2023, at the Chicago Family Church in Schaumburg, Illinois, to benefit nine schools in Africa spanning eight countries. The event was attended by 40 supporters.
Our program featured dynamic speakers, including Rev. Fannie Smith, who passionately shared her experiences working with WFWP USA as the Schools of Africa national fundraising director. Dr. Rita Pritchett blessed us with her gift of song.
Mr. Mamadou Camara served as the emcee for our event. He expressed how moved he was by the testimonies of three African students in Mozambique, recorded in Portuguese, who shared their gratitude and educational aspirations. Mamadou, as a man from Africa, explained that students have many obstacles to overcome, such as traveling back and forth to school on foot across distances. There is often no electricity in the home so students must study by candlelight, which can be dangerous. Manadou explained how WFWP's sponsored schools are oftentimes the only school option for many students.
The fundraising event featured tables adorned with donated items. Raffle tickets were sold for $10 or 6 for $50 at the door and during the program. During the drawing, winners could choose their items from the tables where they were displayed. The raffle continued until all the items were chosen. It was enjoyed by all.
Afterwards a silent bidding was announced to take place online for several more valuable items.
Additionally there was a potluck, sharing each other’s prepared dishes, fostered a joyful atmosphere.
We express gratitude to everyone for their generous donations and enthusiastic participation. As of now, we have raised $1,882.
Thank you once again for your ongoing support for the Schools of Africa Project!
