NETWORKING INCREASES AWARENESS IN TAMPA
The WFWP Tampa Chapter has been networking with various women's organizations in order to make a foundation to launch the Global Women's Peace Network locally. We have been working with Pastor Anne Tom-Wright, the founder of (Women in Ministry) Daughters of Zion, and have been meeting Sunday evenings at her church to share in Bible studies on the lives of women in the Bible. We also conducted meetings and planning events with various local women's organizations all of which are geared to promoting awareness of issues affecting the family, youth and women.
Based on this, on December 21st, Pastor Anne held an evening program on human trafficking which was attended by 20 women including several leaders from local women's groups. Pastor Anne brought in one deputy sheriff and a trafficking survivor as experts on the subject. The participants learned that human trafficking is taking place right here in Tampa, and through that, gained the resolve to do something about it.
Mrs. Evelyne Drake, co-chairwoman of Florida, opened the program with prayer, and introduced what WFWP and GWPN are doing on the national and international levels, which is to bring awareness of the extent of human trafficking around the world and nationally. The women exchanged information to begin the process of cultivating cooperative efforts and relationships for future action. All agreed to meet again soon to continue the effort
